Scope

This new work item proposal specifies a direct spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of nitrite and nitrate by continuous flow analysis (CFA). The method is based on the reaction of nitrite with sulphanilamide to form a diazonium salt which caused the amaranth dye colour of the solution in acidic media, and which absorbs at 540 nm. This proposed international standard is applicable to meat and meat products, including livestock and poultry products.
