Biotechnology — Requirements for RNA quantification methods for gene expression analysis of biological systems

Scope

This document supports the field of biotechnology and engineering biology and provides general requirements for evaluating the performance and ensuring the quality of methods used for the detection and quantification of RNA for gene expression analysis of biological systems.
This document applies to RNA derived from biological systems including bacterial, yeast, plant, and mammalian systems as well as cell-free and synthetic systems. It is applicable to targeted detection and quantification using approaches such as PCR and whole transcriptome analysis using approaches such as sequencing.
It covers quantification strategies, sample handling and processing requirements, method validation and data analysis and reporting.
